Rules of Perceptual Organization: Part 2-- Continuity

Part 2 of the Rules of Perceptual Organization is Continuity.  Continuity is the idea that individual objects that create a continuous form (such as a line) will be perceived as a group.  This differs from Closure in that Continuity forms a continuous shape, which is why we perceive the group; whereas, Closure creates a group because it is close to forming a recognizable figure.  In the picture above, one can see the rocks as a curved line to keep in the mulch.  There are multiple rocks making up this shape, but we perceive it as a group of rocks to form a barrier.  This demonstrates the concept of Continuity.  Stay tuned for the Rules of Perceptual Organization:  Part 3-- Similarity!
